What's California 65?
In November 1986, California voted to pass the "safe drinking water and toxic substances Enforcement Act", which is the familiar California proposal 65. The purpose of the proposal is to protect California's drinking water sources from chemicals known to cause cancer and reproductive toxicity, and to protect public health. The proposal requires businesses to warn consumers that products contain known toxic chemicals through clear and reasonable labels. At present, there are more than 900 chemical substances that are considered carcinogenic or reproductive toxic in California and listed in the chemical list. California 65 affects all products sold in California.
Challenges of California 65
All products sold in California, including textiles, toys, groceries, food contact products, electronic products, etc., will be affected by the California 65 proposal. There is no fixed limit requirement for the known hazardous chemicals in the product, but it varies according to the substance itself and the product category. These limits come from the settlement agreement reached by consumers or environmental protection groups in the lawsuit filed by the court for certain products containing toxic chemicals.
Our solution
TST standard detection pays full attention to the "list of known hazardous chemicals" and the updates of "no significant risk level values" (nsrls) and "maximum allowable dose level values" (madls) in California proposal 65, tracks and deeply studies the settlement agreement, detects the content of chemical substances involved, and helps customers meet the requirements of California proposal 65.
