What is antimicrobial testing?
Antibacterial detection is to detect the inhibition of some materials on microorganisms. According to the classification of bacteria, antimicrobial detection can be divided into two categories: bacterial detection and mold detection
Bacterial detection
According to the Gram staining test, bacteria can be divided into Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria. We usually choose some bacteria with representative characteristics, which are closely related to our lives and are easy to get, easy to preserve and activate, and have stable activity for test. For example: E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, etc.
Mould detection
Mold will grow in some humid environment, so it will cause mildew of the product. Generally, Aspergillus niger, globose shell, Penicillium and Trichoderma were selected for mixed detection.
Antibacterial testing can be divided into non absorbent material, absorbent material and liquid material according to product detection
Non absorbent material
It is mainly some products with hard surface such as plastics and ceramics. Some antibacterial agents are added to the products, which can prevent the growth of microorganisms. For example, refrigerators, washing machines, tableware and so on used in our daily life can be made into antibacterial products, which can prevent the growth of some microorganisms and play a good role in sanitation and cleaning.
Absorbent material
Mainly some textiles. We are more common clothing, towels, sanitary products and other daily necessities have antibacterial products.
Liquid material
Antibacterial agent is the main antibacterial component added to antibacterial products. The most common detection is the minimum inhibitory concentration.
According to the test results, antibacterial detection can be divided into qualitative and quantitative detection
Qualitative test
It can not judge the strength and weakness of the antibacterial property of the product, but only whether the product has antibacterial property. The common methods are the method of bacteriostatic ring, Quine method, etc.
Quantitative detection
Mainly for the detection of antibacterial products, it can evaluate the antibacterial properties of the products. The antibacterial properties were reflected by the antibacterial rate or the antibacterial activity value.
New progress in antimicrobial detection
With the development of antibacterial materials, the detection methods should be developed accordingly. At present, many new materials, such as nano materials and photocatalysis materials, have certain antibacterial properties.
